Kwahu South inaugurates Area Councils

Six Area Councils within the Kwahu South District have been inaugurated concurrently on Thursday 16th July 2020 with a call on members to work towards the implementation of the local governance and decentralization policies.

Members were also entreated to be conversant with the legal and regulatory frameworks governing local governance to enable them to function effectively.

The Area Councils inaugurated included the Adawso Area Council, Asakaraka Area Council, Bepong Area Council, Obomeng Atibie Mpraeso Area Council, Obo Twenedrase Area Council and Kwahu Praso Area Council.

In a speech read on his behalf, at the separate functions, Emmanuel Atta Ofori, District Chief Executive (DCE), stated that the District Assembly cannot function effectively without effective, functional, and reliable sub-structures.



He charged members to spearhead the social, economic, and political change they wish to see by communicating clearly and effectively and to put aside their political, ethnic and personal sentiments and serve the people in accordance with the laid-down rules.

He also promised the Assembly’s support and training for them to function properly in order to deepen democracy and strengthen local participation of the local governance system and also to ensure development.



Unit Committee Members/Area Council Members swore the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, giving them the legal backing for their operations.

The various Area Councils elected their Chairpersons at their first meeting just after the inauguration.
