The purpose of the initiative is to assemble a dedicated and well-equipped team, including leading electrical contractors, tasked with fixing and maintaining streetlights in all parts of the district.

According to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to improve nighttime visibility and reduce crime.

He said the move also aligns with the Greater Accra Regional Minister’s ambitious “70% Streetlight Project”, which aims to restore at least 70% of the region’s non-functional streetlights.

The team of ambassadors, Hon. Dordoe said, will be responsible for fixing faulty streetlights, installing new lights at strategic locations and submitting quarterly reports to the Assembly for prompt action.

“It is our desire to see the streets of the entire district bright at all times, and that is why I have appointed them as ambassadors each in charge of a particular Electoral Area,” the DCE stated.

He acknowledged that the ongoing Adentan-Dodowa road construction has led to the temporary removal of several streetlights to allow for the progress of the roadworks. He however stressed that the Assembly remains committed to restoring and expanding lighting infrastructure to improve safety and night visibility.

The DCE commended the Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for the area, Linda Ocloo, for donating 100 street lamps to the District Assembly for onward distribution and installation in the various communities.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Emmanuel Adjetey, an electrical contractor and one of the Street-Light Ambassadors, applauded the DCE for the initiative.

He pledged the team’s full support and commitment to its success, assuring that all streetlights worked on will be embedded with GPS codes to guarantee their safety.
