In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the District Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, revealed that the district had received about 100 streetlights from the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, which have since been distributed to all 22 Electoral Areas within the district for installation.

According to Hon. Dordoe, the provision forms part of the Regional Minister’s ambitious “70% Streetlight Project,” which aims to ensure that 70 percent of Accra's non-functional streetlights are restored within her first 50 days in office. Linda Ocloo, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, has publicly committed to resolving street lighting issues across the region.

"The Regional Minister, after assuming office, gave us 100 pieces of streetlights when she launched the 70 percent streetlight project, which has since been distributed for installation across the district," the DCE confirmed.

He further noted that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) together with Volta River Authority has also contributed significantly to the installation of streetlights in the district as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

However, Hon. Dordoe pointed out that the ongoing construction of the Adentan-Dodowa road has led to the temporary removal of several streetlights along that stretch to allow for smooth progress of the roadworks.

Despite this, he emphasized the critical role of street lighting in boosting public safety and aiding both motorists and pedestrians at night and thus assured residents that his office is working closely with all relevant stakeholders to fast-track the repair and installation of other non-functioning lights.

The DCE commended the Regional Minister for her continued dedication to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the district.
