EJISU: Assenefoihene of Essieninpong is municipal best farmer

The farmers’ day celebration since its inception 36 years ago has become an annual ritual and so this year’s event was hosted at Donaso a farming community in the Ejisu municipality on 6th November 2020 under the theme “Ensuring Agribusiness Development Under COVID-19: Opportunities And Challenges”.

In all 16 gallant farmers were honoured for their hard work in supporting mother Ghana. But one of them stood tall among the rest and he is the clan head (Assenefoihene) of Essieninpong, Achinakrom, and Onwe Traditional Areas.


Nana Kwaku Okyere Darko, the best farmer for the municipality for 2020, has 30 acres of cocoa, 3 acres of plantain, 2 acres of cocoyam and cassava, over 100 poultry birds, 20 goats, and other livestock to his credit.

For his prize, he took home a tricycle, a double door fridge, agrochemicals, and coconut seedlings including other farming equipment.

15 others also received consolation prizes and were each given a certificate, agrochemicals, cutlasses, knapsack machines, coconut seedlings, and wheelbarrow.


The municipal director for agriculture, Mr. Patrick Akowuah in his welcome address, enumerated the numerous policies and programmes put in place by the government for farmers and urged them to tap into it for their development and sustenance.

The MEC, Mad. Beatrice Serwaah Derkyi, was full of praise for the farmers and entreated all especially the youth to embrace farming since it has become lucrative and most importantly gov’t was ready to assist farmers.



The chairman for the occasion was the chief of Donaso who is the Marwere hene of Ejisu traditional area Nana Kofi Agyekum II in his remarks also urges all especially the youth and chiefs to take agriculture seriously adding that it is a very productive venture.
