Miss Patience Ampomah, an Advocacy Officer at the Sunyani Office of the PPAG, said she was optimistic that the distribution would be done in a more transparent manner.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced an allocation of GH 292.4 million for the distribution of the sanitary pads when he presented the 2025 budget statement to parliament.

In an interview in Sunyani, Ms Ampomah urged the government to engage civil society organizations, gender activists, educators, healthcare professionals and community leaders in ensuring that the beneficiaries received the pads.

Describing the initiative as a positive step, she said it was necessary for the nation to prioritise reproductive health of young people, especially their menstruation and personal hygiene.

Ms Ampomah said effective distribution of the sanitary pads would greatly tackle school dropout rates among girls and also control sexual promiscuity among young girls who engaged in sex in exchange of sanitary pads.
