The residents said the poor condition of roads in the area had adversely affected transportation, healthcare delivery, economic activities and the general wellbeing of residents.

They particularly expressed concern over the Samenye-Barrier to Half-Assini and New Town road, which they described as a major route connecting several communities to the municipal capital. Speaking to the occassion, a resident, Mrs Aisha Davies, said the poor state of the road had contributed to road accidents, as motorists were often forced to swerve around deep potholes.

She expressed disappointment that despite previous assurances that the road would be addressed, there had been no visible improvement. Another resident, Madam Khadija Yankey, called on the Deputy Minister to make the road project a priority, stressing that good roads were essential to the social and economic development of the municipality.

She said the condition of the road also posed challenges to residents seeking healthcare, particularly pregnant women travelling to the Government Hospital at Half-Assini. The residents further complained that repeated assurances about the commencement of work had not materialised, saying the contractor had yet to move to site. They therefore appealed to Madam Afo-Toffey to use her position to lobby for the immediate asphalt surfacing of the Samenye-Barrier to Half-Assini and New Town road.

The residents also urged her to consider using her share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to support the project.

They expressed frustration over what they described as prolonged delays and unfulfilled promises, warning that failure to address the situation could affect their future political support.

Madam Afo-Toffey has reportedly indicated on various platforms that the road had been awarded to Kingspork Construction Limited, but work was yet to commence because the contractor had not moved to site.

The residents have consequently called for urgent action to restore the road network and improve the movement of people, goods and services within the Jomoro Municipality.
