BOSOME F: NCCE organizes a seminar to promote peaceful elections

The Bosome Freho District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Peace Council has organized a day's seminar for Political Party Executives in three constituencies namely Bosome Freho, Asante Akim South, and Asante Akim central constituencies in the Ashanti Region on the need for peaceful elections.

The event held at Asiwa, the capital of the Bosome Freho District, was to enhance the capacity of the Executives on conflict prevention and dispute management within the various constituencies in the region.

It was also meant to increase the executive’s knowledge on the electoral processes to enable them execute their work well.

The Executive secretary of the Peace Council in the Ashanti Region, Rev Emmanuel Amoah Badu in his presentation said, peace and unity should be a regular and constant theme in the messages of all Politicians who mounts the Political platforms to speak to electorate to canvas for votes.

He urged the political leaders to collaborate effectively with the NCCE, security agencies, traditional authorities, faith based organizations and community leaders to promote non-violence in the coming elections.

He  further  advised the electorates to reject Politicians who seek to use them as willing tools to implement any negative agenda that can destabilized the country and turn back the clock of progress.

Mr. Arthur Wilson, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Director for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCEE), urged the Electoral Commission to enforce the electoral rules and regulations and the political parties' code of conduct to achieve a free, fair and violence-free election.

He further appealed to the political parties to use this seminar to educate their followers on what they have leant so that Ghana could maintained its status as pivot of Africa over the past years.  Mr. Wilson also appealed to Ghanaians to help in their small way to ensure that the December 7 elections are credible to bring about the needed development in the country.

The District Electoral Officer, Mrs. Grace Martha Navelle, who took the participants through some basic principles of voting procedures, called on the political parties to design their own ballot papers to educate their supports to avoid so many spoilt ballots. 

She also used the occasion to appeal to the media and others observers who goes to the polling stations to seek information to use the right channel to get the right information before they go on air.

Mr. Mathias Oppong, the Bosome Freho District Director for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in his welcome address, urged the political parties to conduct themselves in a manner that would promote peaceful elections.

He also called on the political parties to, also monitor the behaviour of the electorates and supporters who are often used by the parties to commit electoral offenses.
