The District Chief Executive for Bosome Freho, Mr. Kwame Adarkwah has asked Ghanaians to join hands with the Electoral Commission (EC), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Security Agencies in their guest in implementing various activities to ensure transparent, free and fair election in the November 7 general elections.
He further requested all citizens to pray for the peace, harmony and prosperity of the Bosome Freho District and the rest of the country as the assembly make efforts in addressing the socio-economic issues confronting the District to improve the wellbeing of the people.
Mr. Kwame Adarkwah made the request when addressing the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Asiwa, the district capital in the Ashanti Region.
The DCE said, this would not only cost irreparably damage in this year’s election, but would also affect sustainable peace and slacken the pace of development being carried out by the government in the area.
Mr. Kramer Adarkwah also highlighted a number of development projects that the assembly undertook over the past few years. Among which include roads, health facilities, schools, electricity poverty reduction, agriculture, waste management and environmental sanitation.
He therefore, appealed to assembly members to help maintain the sanitary conditions in their electoral areas by initiating measures that would go a long way to compel individuals to help tidy the unhygienic surroundings.
Hon. Adarkwah said although, the District has experienced some progress in terms of socio-economic development, it is still confronted with some challenges in the areas of education, health, agriculture, road network, staff accommodation among others saying that assembly members have crucial roles to play in terms of addressing the socio-economic issues confronting the District to improve the wellbeing of the people.
According to him, even though government was making efforts to make the assembly vibrant by providing them with the needed logistics, there is also the need for them to play their part by supporting the assembly in the area of revenue mobilization to complement government’s effort.
“if importance was attached to revenue mobilization, the assembly can solely embark on massive developmental projects without necessarily waiting for the assistance from government saying that assembly members need to complement the efforts of the assembly staff to generate more revenue through property rate collection, to fund development projects and stop the over-reliance on the District Assembly Common Fund and other” he indicated.
