The ANAM Initiative since its launch has created a total of 22 boreholes in rural communities, schools and institutions; constructed 9 limited mechanized water systems in urban, peri-urban, and institutions; rehabilitated 15 boreholes and Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) in 11 communities.
The Planning Officer of the District, Mr. James Ata-Era presenting the model's implementation and way forward of ANAM initiative pointed out that, although there has being a success with regards to hygienic water provision, additional funding is required to support the district to implement sanitation activities and meet targets for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
He added that other partnership opportunities are being explored for sanitation and IWRM activities to achieve complete Sustainable Development Goal 6 in the district.
Senior Vice President for World Vision US, Margaret Schuler, speaking on World Vision’s global commitment to Universal WASH, stressed that her organization through its universal coverage is pleased to witness the partnership and success of the initiative so far.
Chief Executive of CWSA, Engineer Siabi Worlanyo addressing government’s commitment towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 highlighted that the government is keen to perform exceptionally as the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is currently the co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals. He added that through huge investment in WASH, indicators score Ghana a percentage of 76.
Country Director of IRC, Mrs. Vida Duti commended the District Assembly on its show of commitment and leadership in driving the development agenda.
A visit was made to Panaaba Community, they have benefited a borehole drilled by World Vision and its partners. According to Nana Atakora Amaniampong, Chief of Panaaba, we use to fetch unclean water from a river about 2 kilometers or buy water from another Community before transporting it to our community, this was very stressful.
The District Assembly brought two different companies to drill water for us but we couldn't get the water. World Vision drilled only ones and water started flowing. So we say wherever World Vision goes water flows he added.
ANAM Initiative is partnered by World Vision Ghana, Aquaya Institute, International Rescue Committee (IRC), Safe Water Network, Netcentric Campaigns and CDC with funding from Hilton Foundation.
