ATEBUBU: Election security task force inaugurated

An eleven member Election Security Task Force for the Atebubu-Amantin district under the chairmanship of Superintendent Joseph Atsu Dzineku, the district police commander has been re-activated and inaugurated in Atebubu.

The task force comprises the Police Service, Bureau of National Investigations BNI, the Immigration Service, Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO.

Others are Electoral Commission, the district assembly, the National Commission for Civic Education NCCE and the Information Services Department.

At the inaugural ceremony Superintendent Dzineku said although task forces for some districts were inaugurated as far back as March, that of the Atebubu-Amantin district had to delay due to some political disturbances at the time.

The committee will have 7 sub-committees namely: Joint Operation Centre, Media and Communication, Personnel Mobilization and Deployment, Finance and Ballot Security.

Two remaining sub-committees will see to Intelligence, Legal, Investigation and Prosecution as well as Logistics and Transport.

The mandate of the committee will be to ensure the overall security of the elections while its functions will include: securing the safe transportation and storage of ballot materials at police stations, ensuring peace at polling stations on election day, seeing to the smooth settlement of complaints, ensuring the arrest and prosecution of election offenders as well as identifying trouble prone areas in the constituency.

It will also identify inaccessible areas for advanced planning, make estimates on police personnel and expenditure required and any other matters of security interest that will ensure a successful election.
