SOCIAL: Committee set to investigate districts boundary disputes

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu has indicated that a Committee headed by Prof. Benyin has been set up to investigate some looming boundary disputes brewing among the newly created MMDAs and already existing ones.

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu has indicated that a Committee headed by Prof. Benyin has been set up to investigate some looming boundary disputes brewing among the newly created MMDAs and already existing ones.

The minister observed that, there were instances where mother districts alleged to still be collecting revenue from institutions within the territory the new districts citing examples of Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) and La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) in the Greater Accra Region.

He also cited example from Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and Sagnarigu District Assembly in the Northern Region.

There were also similar boundary disputes in other regions in the country between the Ga East and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipalities.

The minister said: “I receive letters from various organizations,” who complain of not knowing where to pay property rates to due to boundary disputes.

According to the Minister, the Prof. Benyin Committee will evaluate all the situation involve and come out with recommendations for amicable solution.

Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu made the above information know during a Meet-the-Press series organized by the Ministry of Information and Media Relations in Accra yesterday.
