The Ketu South Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region is putting in a lot of efforts and resources to make good the directive of numbering all houses and naming streets in the district.

Not only has the assembly constituted and inaugurated a sub-committee to oversee operations but more importantly the necessary logistics and equipments have either been procured or are in the process. Already, two laptops and desktops, 23 inch LCD television aimed to facilitate activities of the committee are in place.

Speaking to ghanadistricts.com, focal person for the street naming and house numbering exercise at the assembly, Mr. Arku Bless disclosed that the assembly is also procuring satellite image of the municipality that will provide a clearer view to help identify all access routes for inclusion. He said the committee will be relying on modern technologies like the Global Positioning System (GPS) to track down all access execute the task ahead of them.

Mr. Arku said though the committee is yet to have stakeholders meeting on possible names and the relevant issues, a lot of work is ongoing on the ground. He admitted that one of the challenges the committee is confronted with has to do with the haphazard manner in which the communities were established. “However, we have started digitizing the communities to be followed by assessment to be sure everything falls in place before the actual numbering and naming commences”, he stated.

He expressed confidence the assembly would be able to meet the deadline giving by the president for the completion of the work.
