Some chiefs in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area have commended Ms Ophelia Koomson, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, on her efforts in accelerating development in the municipality.

The chiefs also commended the assembly for maintaining peace and tranquility in the area.

They made the commendation when they paid a courtesy call on the MCE in her office at Akyem Oda.

The chiefs included Nana Akua Asantewa III, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere, Queen and Krontihene respectively of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council.

The other chief was Nana Owusu Gyamadu IV, Akyem Anyinasihene, who doubles as the Abusuapanin of the Traditional Area and is the immediate past Eastern Regional representative on the Council of State.

“Apart from the era of the late District Commissioner, Mr Kwame Kwakye in the First Republic, the municipality has not witnessed massive infrastructural development as is happening now under your administration,” the chiefs said.

Nana Akua Asantewa, who acted as the spokesperson for the chiefs, urged Ms Koomson not to rest on her oars but to continue to work hard to promote the “Better Ghana Agenda” in the municipality.

She said she was not happy about the deplorable roads at Akyem Oda and wanted to know plans the assembly had towards their rehabilitation for the traditional council to provide the necessary support.

Nana Akua Asantewa also expressed worry about congestion at the Central Business District and said the council was prepared to assist the assembly in any decongestion exercise.

In her response, Ms Koomson announced that the roads had been awarded on contract and that the contractors would soon move to site.

She said through her efforts, a Department of Urban Roads would be established at Akyem Oda and all challenges concerning road rehabilitation would be a thing of the past.

Ms Koomson expressed her gratitude to the chiefs and said “for me to succeed in my administration, I will need the total support of the Akyem Kotoku Chiefs.”

She said their suggestions and corrections were always welcome and pleaded with them that where they might not agree on policies of the municipality they should not hesitate to call her in closed doors to iron out differences.
