Madam Agnes Kusi, the Sunyani West District Chief Executive, has said it was incumbent on assembly members to ensure peace in the communities.

She therefore, emphasized the need for assembly members to exhibit high sense of unity to create peaceful atmosphere towards sustained development in the district and not take the prevailing peace in the district for granted.

Madam Kusi said this when addressing the Third Ordinary Meeting of the assembly at Odumase.

She spoke about pockets of potential and existing chieftaincy disputes in some communities and urged assembly members to educate the people that “Peaceful co- existence is a prerequisite for development”.

On revenue, Mad Kusi said the assembly generated GH¢1,862,530 and an expenditure of GH¢1,756,396 representing 58.48 per cent.

She said the assembly’s performance was discouraging and pledged its commitment not to relent on efforts to improve the mobilisation of its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) towards improved socio-economic development in the district.

She urged members to intensify education in the communities on the need to pay all their revenue including property and ground rates.

Madam Kusi noted that the health needs of the citizenry were a priority therefore; the assembly had instituted measures and structures to ensure the health of the people was improved.

She said the assembly, with the support of UNICEF, had upgraded the skills of 25 Community Health Officers in Infant Young Child Food while the CHPS compound at Addae Boreso, a community in the district had been inaugurated.

The DCE lauded the efforts of the District Directorate of Education that ensured the district scored 59.20 per cent and no school scored zero in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

She appealed to the Directorate to intensify its monitory procedures to ensure improved performance of pupils, students and teachers.

“We would play our role in motivating hardworking teachers and provide the needed infrastructure to improve the quality of education in the district,” she added.

Mrs Joyce Takyi Kemevor, Sunyani West District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, said it was important to educate farmers on appropriate and healthy farm practices.

She expressed concern about some farmers  who used agro- chemical containers as drinking cups after usage while some did not know the appropriate application of agro-chemicals which posed danger to them and the consumers.

Mrs Kemevor appealed to the assembly to assist in the intensification and upgrading of training workshops and mass education for the farmers.

Nana Asante-Nketiah, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, commended the members for their commitment towards development of the district and urged them to continue to forge ahead in unity to achieve the goals of the assembly.
