The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), on Wednesday organised the Second Regional Learning Alliance Meeting in Sunyani in collaboration with Sustainable Services at Scale (Tripple-S) Project.

The Learning Alliance Platform seeks to bring together stakeholders in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector to share experiences of the best practices and find solution to challenges facing the water and sanitation sector in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The meeting discussed findings from two rounds of data collection facilitated by the CWSA/Tripple-S Project, to monitor the functionality and service levels of water facilities in the Sunyani West District.

The meeting attracted 30 participants from the CWSA, Ghana Water Company Limited, Sunyani-West District Assembly, the media and non-governmental organisations involved in advocacy in the water and sanitation sector in the Region.

Mr Emmanuel Foster Boateng, Regional Director of CWSA noted that the functionality tracking exercise had come at a time when focus on the rural water sub-sector is beginning to shift from infrastructure provision towards sustainable service delivery.

The functionality and service monitoring assist the districts and partners to focus on the "actual services" received by water consumers as opposed to infrastructural provision.

It also assist districts to access the capacity gap of District Works Department, District Water and Sanitation Teams in providing the needed support for sustainable water services.

The consensus at the meeting was that the sustainability of the Small Town Water Systems calls for the tracking and auditing of water consumption in relation to the revenue generated from such projects.

The participants expressed the need for the provision of fix meters at the pump sources to determine the amount of water consumed periodically to determine the revenue accrued.
