Some youth Ningo Prampram District in the Greater Accra Region have threatened to cause mayhem if their friends arrested on Sunday for engaging in violent protests there, are not released.
The arrested youth were alleged to have destroyed properties belonging to the District Assembly in protest against the naming of Prampram as the District capital.
On Tuesday, some angry youth hit the streets in solidarity with the arrested persons.
They told Accra-based Citi FM their colleagues must be released as soon as possible or there will not be peace in the area.
One of the angry youth accused the Member of Parliament for the area ET Mensah of instigating the arrest and for spearheading the siting of the capital at Prampram even though Ningo is a larger town.
The government last year carved the Ningo-Prampram District out of the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region with the capital at Prampram but that has triggered chaos and misunderstanding.
The people of Ningo claim they are the indigenous people and must be recognized as such.
With the MP, ET Mensah being a native of Prampram, the Ningo youth suspect foul play.
One of the angry youth said they are not ready to work under a District capital located in Prampram.
They would rather pay their taxes to Dodowa, Ada, or Ashiaman District Assemblies, he swore.
He said their colleagues arrested must be released, if peace is to be maintained.
