He said the absence of the offices in the Digya and Dwarf islands makes work difficult during elections and at times culminates in a number of people disenfranchised on Election Day.

He said the nature and terrain of the area necessitate the presence of satellite Electoral Offices so as to ease the burden of dispatching electoral materials from the office in Donkorkrom.

In the past people have voted later than the scheduled time or a day after the national exercise all due to the late arrival of materials. He therefore appealed to the Electoral Commission to consider setting up such offices so that people are not disenfranchised during elections.

The DCE made the call during the inauguration of the District Elections Security Taskforce at Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District in the Eastern Region.

He implored on the members of the taskforce to put the interest of Ghana first and eschew any act which would favor a particular divide. He assured the taskforce of the District Assembly’s commitment to support them in ensuring peaceful polls before and after the elections.

The members of the taskforce were drawn from the heads of the security services in the district namely; the Police Commander, the District Crime Officer, Fire Officer. Prisons Officer, Customs Officer (GRA), BNI and others from the Assembly namely the District Coordinating Director, Electoral Officer, Information Officer, Director of NCCE and Director of Ambulance Services.

The District Police Commander, Superintendent Osei Ababio, who is the Chairman of the taskforce, expressed the readiness of the security services in ensuring peaceful polls. He said the role of the taskforce is to ensure that the security aspect of the elections is managed effectively before and after the elections.

He appealed to the District Assembly to support the course of the taskforce to make the work effective.
