Tenants in the house fortunately realised that the little boy had taken in a dangerous substance and rushed him to the Obuasi government hospital for treatment, where doctors confirmed that the naive infant had consumed some quantity of poison.
When the little child was resuscitated, he mentioned his grandfather as the one who gave him the substance.
During interrogation of the suspect after his arrest on the farm, he told the police that he gave the child the poison.
The suspect mentioned that he did that because the little boy had become a burden on him and he wanted to get rid of him.
According to the commander, the suspect disclosed that the mother of the child came to dump the three year old boy on him and left because she had separated from her husband.
The suspect, further stated that taking care of the young boy had become an arduous task and therefore decided to end the boys life prematurely in the horrendous way , so that he could have his peace of mind.
The commander, who pointed out that the explanation given by the accused would not be taken in good faith ,averred that the police were preparing feverishly to process the suspect for court to let the law take its course.
