EFFUTU: UEW to mentor and help upgrade St. Vincent College of Education

He said, university of education, Winneba is the only university with the special mandate to train professional and competent teachers for all levels of education in Ghana, therefore, the university will extend that mandate to all affiliated colleges of education through mentorship.
The vice chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke said these at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between St. Vincent College of Education, Yendi and the University of Education, Winneba at the council chambers of the university in Winneba.
He said UEW has entered into similar collaborations with some colleges of education in Ghana, aimed at providing assistance in the professional training of their staff.
Adding that, the collaborations were influenced by the passage of the college of education act by the government of Ghana to upgrade all teacher training colleges into tertiary institutions.
Professor Avoke said, it is also consistent of the university’s vision of entering into developmentally oriented relationships with like-minded institutions in Ghana and beyond and to promote quality teaching and learning in the educational sector.
For his part, the principal of St. Vincent College of education, Dr. Erasmus Norviewu-Mortty said the signing of the memorandum marks a crucial milestone in the annals of the college, he said, the full accreditation of the college as a tertiary institution will empower the college to run its 3-year diploma in education programme. The principal on behalf of the college council and other staff members thanked UEW for accepting to mentor and help upgrade St. Vincent College of education into a top college of education in Ghana.
Present at the ceremony were Professor Mawutor Avoke (V.C -UEW), Professor Rev. Fr. Anthony Afful-Broni (Pro. V.C – UEW), Dr. C.Y Akwaa-Mensah (Registrar-UEW) and other Deputy Registrar and Senior Principal Officers of UEW.
St. Vincent College Of Education – Yendi, in the Northern Region was also represented by the Dr. Erasmus Norviewu-Mortty, (the principal) and Mr. Koxwell Kaba Tiire (College Secretary).
