The foundation was launched in July 2025 at Tebeso II in the Bosome Freho District as part of efforts to provide educational opportunities for vulnerable children and reduce their exposure to the dangers associated with illegal mining activities.

The initiative seeks to identify and support students who demonstrate academic potential but face financial difficulties that could prevent them from continuing their education.

According to the DCE, investing in education is an important strategy in the fight against child labour and illegal mining, particularly in communities where young people are drawn into galamsey because of limited employment opportunities.

Charles Appiah Kubi noted that the lack of decent and sustainable employment opportunities in some local communities has contributed to youths turning to illegal mining as a means of earning income.

He therefore stressed the need to provide young people with education and skills that can equip them for better opportunities in the future.

The foundation is expected to serve as a support system for vulnerable students while encouraging children to remain in school instead of entering illegal mining sites.

The DCE also emphasised the importance of collective support from parents, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders in protecting children from hazardous work and ensuring that they receive the education they need.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to tackle the social and economic factors that contribute to illegal mining in the district.

By supporting needy students and promoting education, the foundation seeks to create alternative pathways for young people and contribute to the long-term development of Bosome Freho.
