ASOKORE: Stakeholders in health sensitized on Telemedicine

The workshop was to train them on the use and need for telemedicine to diagnose and cure patients and also attend to emergency cases. Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical healthcare from a distance.
The Municipal Health Director, Mr Justice Ofori Amoah said the use of telemedicine is very important to their service in other to bridge the gap between healthcare delivery in the urban and rural communities.
He added that with the use of this system a doctor or specialist can assist a nurse save lives in emergency situations without transporting the patient to another hospital.
It also helps the health practitioner to know the right type of drug to be administered to a patient.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan said the use of telemedicine in the municipality to assist patients is a laudable idea, adding that the practice will help to reduce patients transfer to other hospitals outside the Municipality for treatment.
It will also help nurses improve upon their skills and also know the right medicines to administer to a patient.
The MCE promised to support the health directorate with the necessary equipment to champion this course and enhance quality healthcare in the communities.
Present at the function were nurses and midwives as well as other health practitioners in the municipality.
