Obofuor Atwima-Kwaah Boakye Darkwa II, Gyankobaahene and Otumfuo Kwansentuohene, who made the appeal on behalf of the people, said the lands were acquired by the previous government for the One District One Factory (1D1F) and the Waste-To-Power projects in the town.
He said though the previous government started the compensation payments, they were incomplete and the situation was seriously affecting the farmers.
Obofour Kwaa Boakye Darkwa II made the appeal, when Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) paid a courtesy call on him at his palace as part of his ‘Thank you’ and community engagement tour to some communities in the municipality.
The Chief emphasized that the previous government paid GHC 100,000.00, out of the total of GHC 400,000.00, compensation for the site and that was insufficient for the farmers to share and invest into other ventures for reliable incomes to sustain their livelihoods.
He appealed to the MCE and the government to consider the plight of the affected persons and compensate them.
The Chief also appealed to the government to pass the LGBTQ+ Bill as promised during the campaign period in order to ensure sanitized marriage principles in the country.
He expressed his confidence in the government to deliver since a past NDC government once provided the town with potable water and classroom blocks.
Mr. Boamah, in response, pledged to work hard and decisively to get the problem resolved for the welfare of the people.
He also explained the policy arrangements made on economy, agriculture, education and other sectors to help the people in the area.
He urged the farmers to register in their numbers in the ongoing Feed Ghana Poultry Programme, labelled as “Nkokonketenkete” project, to enable them to benefit from its targeted profit in the near future.
In an open forum, the people appealed for expansion of electricity, improved water and sanitation, classrooms, communication network and other amenities.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi, Assemblyman for the area, appealed to the MCE and the government to complete the 1D1F factory project and make it operational for its intended purpose.
He said the factory was aimed at ginger processing since Gyankobaa remained the largest ginger producer in the Ashanti region.
