ASOKORE M: BAC equips about 115 with employable skills

The Asokore Mampong office of the Business Advisory Centre has ones again successfully equipped about 115 youth in various skills developments

The trainees underwent skills development in baking, batik making, soap making and leather works.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Asokore Mampong Director of BAC, Aikins Agyapong stated that BAC has been phenomenal in its operations in the municipality recording some remarkable achievements including the establishment of 207 new enterprises in the municipality, creating 291 jobs, trained 491 youth in similar skilled training sessions, trained 35 people in management related trainings, assisted 75 people to register their businesses, and trained 9 people in youth in Agriculture.

The rest are; assisted 9 people to write their NVTI exams, and with the support of Rural Enterprise programme assisted plans to secure credit of GHC52, 000.00 from the Asokore Rural Bank among other equally important interventions to the business community in the municipality.

He disclosed that, of the GHC18, 000.00 being the total cost of training, GHC13, 580 was born by the Rural Enterprise Programme, while the Assembly provided 4,420 being commitment fee which would have been paid by the clients.

He said BAC is in discussion with the Municipal Assembly and the Rural Enterprises Programme to provide start-up for the trainings to prevent them remaining unemployed after going through this programme

He pledged BAC's continues support for the unemployed youth to gain something to do; and also called on potential businesses and existing ones to visit their offices for support.

He however called for support for the department particularly with logistics, enough office space, and vehicle. He also appealed to donors for timely release of funds to promote their work.

Municipal Chief Executive for the Asokore Mampong Municipality, Alhaji Seidu disclosed that in line with equipping the youth to be self-reliance, the Assembly is planning to build a vocational training centre to be equipped by the Rural Enterprises programme to train the youth and particularly the vulnerable in society.

He also underscored government commitment to building human resource, and its resolve to help Ghanaians to thrive and be self-sufficient hence the introduction of a number policies aimed at creating jobs and ensure sustainable development.

He said, BAC in collaboration with the assembly is looking forward to training people in mobile phone repairs, hairdressing, tailoring among others in their subsequent training programmes.

The MCE assured that the Assembly will not relent in providing the youth with jobs, adding that only Yesterday, he had a fruitful deliberations with a 20 member delegation from the JICA who have expressed interest in assisting the REP and BAC in shaping and helping the youth to become more self-reliance.    

He also affirm the call for the training to be provided with start-up capital and assured that that would be done.

Nana Asokoremamponghene, who chaired the occasion lauded the initiative and commended the BAC and Assembly for their quest to reduce unemployment.

He urged the beneficiaries to be serious with what they have acquired and wean themselves off the street in the name of unemployment, and contribute their quota to national development.
