Amansie West Assembly builds a new police station

Paul Antwi Mensah A formal ceremony has been performed to mark the start of construction works on a new police station at Manso-Odaho in the Amansie West District - an area, where illegal mining has been pronounced.

The project, one of several, planned to be built across the district with funding by the assembly, is part of the intensified effort to bring down crime including robbery.

Mr. William Bediako Asante, the District Chief Executive, said ensuring adequate security protection for everybody, was a major priority.

He added that the people would not be held hostage by anybody, who had chosen to live outside the law.

He encouraged the formation of neighbourhood watch committees in the communities to complement the good job the police were doing to assure all of their safety.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Badu Poku, the District Commander, called for increased public support and cooperation to enable them to arrest and prosecute criminals in the society.

They should help flag up such people to the police.

He renewed the appeal to the communities to assist provide accommodation for officers posted to the area.

Nana Adjei Kumi II, the chief, pledged that they would contribute free labour to ensure the early completion of the project.

An individual, Mr. Stephen Asiedu, made a cash donation of GH¢30,000.00 in support of the project.
