Ashongman, Kwabenya roads outlived bitumen surfacing; need asphalting

Fast growing communities like Ashongman Estate and Kwabenya all in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region deserve better road networks than they currently have.

These two communities are not only fast growing in population but are recording increases in business establishments.

It is at best described as an extension of the capital city Accra as has been the phenomenon with all other close communities to Accra.

Despite these developments, these areas have not seen equal social infrastructure developments that commensurate with its expansion in population and businesses. A typical example is the road networks.

Though some attempts were made to make the roads quite conducive for motorists, with the construction of drains along the Atomic roundabout – Ashongman Estate main road and subsequent bitumen surfacing, it is unable to survive the pressure brought to it by increase in vehicular use.

The road is fast developing potholes with almost all speed ramps crushed.  Not even regular maintenance in the form of patching is making the needed impact.
Simply put, the road has outlived bitumen surfacing. A more stronger and durable method of road surfacing like asphalting is urgently needed.

Residents around those communities were hopeful the asphalting of some major roads in the municipality including Dome – Atomic Roundabout – Atomic Junction along the Accra Madina Road would have been extended to the Atomic Roundabout – Ashongman but that was not to be.  And the inconveniences of driving through the potholes remain same as the patching presents the same result in a different form.

It is about time the many influential members of Kwabenya and Ashongman Estate get their voices heard on this matter so some relief can be brought to road users.
