Ga East sensitizes staff on bye-laws
The Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA) has organized a workshop to sensitize selected Staff on the Assembly’s bye-laws at Abokobi.

This was done with the objective to help Staff to be conversant with the local laws also known as bye-laws.
Opening the training, the Deputy Director (DD), Dey Kukubor, on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, welcomed the participants and tasked them to pay keen attention to the presentations by the Resource Persons so as to help them know and apply the bye-laws appropriately.
“We are all here today to get sensitized on the Bye-laws of the Assembly. I urge you all to give all your concentration to all that will be spoken about today and at the end, The question “what is it about? “ will be answered”.
The Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), Mr. Charles Amponsah Asabre, one of the two resource persons for the workshop, made a presentation on the Assembly’s Bye-Laws on sanitation.
He indicated that the Assembly's Bye-Laws were sourced from the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), Section 181.
He said the current Bye-Laws was revised from the previous one and gazetted in 2018 after being approved by the General Assembly and certified by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
He educated the participants on the various sanitation offenses and urged them to report on the nuisances in their respective communities.
The Municipal Works Engineer (MWE), Mr. Peter Bah-Lano, the second Resource Person, took the participants through the Bye-Laws bothering on building regulations.
He touched on important areas such as the temporary and permanent permits of which the temporary permits expire within twelve (12) months and five (5) years for the permanent one.
He informed the participants that unauthorized developers (development without permit) when identified are issued with written notices (court summons).
He further explained that by this law, a culprit is either fined or can serve a prison term not more than three months as directed by the court.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Nii-Amarh Ashitey, on behalf of the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), thanked all Staff who participated in the workshop and indicated that Management will continue to facilitate such training regularly.
“I strongly believe you’ve learnt a lot here today and also hope that it will change the way you see things within Local Government Service. As public servants, you can equip yourselves with the Bye-Laws as tools to use when you’re to defend yourself in any case", he stated.
