Asanko Gold supports health facilities

The Asanko Gold mines one of the largest Gold mining company based at Manso Nkran in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region and the Project Cure a U.S. based non Governmental organization NGO has donated a medical equipment and supplies, valued at more than US$ 1.3 million, to eight health facilities within the Amansie west District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana where the Asanko Gold mine is located. This will strengthen and enhance health delivery in the area.

Making the presentation at the ST Martin's Catholic Hospital Agroyesum, the General Manager Operations Mr Charles Amoah said the project C.U.R.E is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to development countries around the world and has provided three 40 foot containers packed with medical equipment and supplies valued at more than US$, 1.3 million.

 

 

He said the Asanko has made a direct contribution of approximately US$200.000 to cover shipment, import duties and other associated project costs.

 

Mr Amoah said this initiative forms part of Asanko opportunity cycle which seeks to leverage the presence of the Asanko Gold mine to have a positive and beneficial impact on its stakeholders and local communities through implementing sustainable projects designed to meet their socioeconomic needs. This health intervention, which was co-determined with local communities’ stakeholders, is complemented. by social investments in education, vocational training and the provision of access to finance.

The District Chief Executive for Amansie West Mr William Asante Bediako expressed his appreciation to the Asanko Gold mine for their major intervention which will positively impact the entire district and stated that, the District Assembly has found in Asanko a worthy partner that has once again clearly demonstrated its passion and commitment to utilizing its presence to meet the development needs of the community.

 

The medical supt, ST Martin's Catholic Hospital Dr Ofori Amanfo on his part thanked the Donner's for the health needs of the people in the district.

 

The District Director of Health Services Mr Dominic Dorbi,on behalf of the Health Directorates thanked the Asanko Gold mining company and the project C.U.R.E in U S A for their kind gesture and pledged to take good care of the items for its life span.

 

The health facilities benefiting from the donation's include St Martin's hospital Agroyesum,Manso-Nkwanta Health Centre,Manso-Adubia Health Centre,Manso -Nkran Health, Manso -Abori health, and Manso -Keniago community based and planning services compound. Other beneficiary facilities are the Essuowin health centre and the mother of God clinic st Esaase-Botefufuom.

 

Rev Sister Mary Amoah of Obuasi Dioceses received the items on behalf of the hospital.
