Kadjebi District celebrates Farmers’ Day

Speaking under the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs -Consolidating food system in Ghana”, at the 37th National Farmers’ Day celebration, the DCE said agriculture is the dominant sector that employed the majority of people and that the government’s flagship programme “Planting for Food and Job” is working hard to ensure that the country becomes self-sufficient in food production.
He indicated that Kadjebi District has witnessed an increase in rice production from 3.2 tons per hectare in 2017 to 5.5 tons per hectare in 2020 as a result of the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative by the government.
Mr. Agbanyo said the government is also putting measures in place to support farmers obtain high yields as the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) has started and encouraged the youth to consider farming as a business.
Mr. Richard Agaga, a 31-year- old farmer from Dodo-Bethel was adjudged the Best Physically Challenged Farmer for 2021 out of 19 farmers and special award winners in the District.
The farmer, who cultivates okra, green leaves, pepper, cassava, garden egg, cocoa, and maize, was awarded a spraying machine, cloth, cutlass, wellington boots, radio set, and key soap.
