Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi Mines commemorate World Malaria Day
The Adansihene, Opagyakctwere Bonsra Afriyie II has tasked environmental officers to re-introduce the regular inspection of homes that they used to do to awaken the sense of cleanliness in people.

The adansihene made this call at the commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day, organised by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mines, AngloGold Ashanti Health Foundation and AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control in collaboration with the Adansi North District Assembly under the theme, `` Draw the line against Malaria’’ at Fomena.
The Adansihene lamented on how people litter the environment with impunity. He said, people connect their bathrooms and kitchen water outlet to the open environment and gutters thus, forming pools of water which serve as breeding space for mosquitoes.
He encouraged the environmental and sanitation personnel to do regular inspection and sanction people who are involved in such activities. The Adansihene stressed that, keeping the environment clean is the most effective way to draw the line against malaria.
The Adansi North District Chief Executive, Hon. Kusi Kwaku Eric called for the collective efforts of stakeholders in the eradication of malaria and acknowledged the efforts of the organising institutions for the good work.
The District Health Director, Mr. Isaac Awuku Odame in his address said the health sector has employed the policy of Test, Treat and Track towards the eradication of malaria in the district. He advised that preventive measures should be adopted in protecting pregnant women from the effects of malaria.
Mr. Odame cautioned the public on the rise of severe malaria in the district which result in the admission of patients to the Beninto Menni Hospital. He therefore urged the people to put the district in malaria eradication stage by the year 2025 as he added that this is achievable based on the drop in Malaria cases in the district.
The Stakeholder Engagement Superintendent of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mines, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei urged all to employ the use of medicated bed nets and clean their communities in order to lift the country's socio- economic sector. He called for the support of stakeholders to aid AngloGold Ashanti achieve its objective of eradicating malaria.
Participants at the programme were tested and given free medication whiles their bio data were taken for tracking.
