Sunyani West DCE tours BECE exam centres

A total of 1,887 candidates from 72 schools are writing the on-going Basic Education Examination (BECE) in the Sunyani west district.

The candidates are made up of 991 boys and 886 girls from both public and private schools.

Mrs. Veronica A. Adu-Saforo, the District Director of Education, made this known when she and Mr. Martin Obeng, the District Chief Executive, visited all the 11 examination centres in the district on Monday.

The examination, according to supervisors started on time. The centres are located at Odumase, Fiapre, Chiraa, and Nsoatre.

There was virtually no absenteeism in almost all the centres, except the Nsoatre Girls Vocational centre which registered three absentees.

Mr. Benjamin Amoako, the supervisor at the centre told the GNA that the absentees comprised two boys and a girl.

He said the candidates stopped school after registration for the exams.

There was a police officer stationed at the various centres to maintain law and order.

At the Sacred Heart centre "A" and Sacred Heart centre "B", where the candidates had finished the first paper, the DCE urged them to have confidence in themselves.

Mr. Obeng told the candidates that they could enjoy the free SHS programme only if they passed the exams.

He told the candidates to avoid cheating at the examination and do independent work in order to become responsible adults and Presidents and occupy key positions in the future.

Mr. Obeng distributed boxes of pens, pencils, and erasers to the examination centers.

Mrs. Adu-Saforo cautioned the candidates against all forms of exam malpractices saying it was a serious offense.
