The health screening has underscored the MP’s vision of bringing health care delivery to the doorstep of the people.
This was the vision of the legislator when she first assumed her position of high office. She has organized several free health related programmes such as “Feel the boobs” a Free Breast Cancer Screening, Eye screening and many others in the past.
Interacting with Mr. Frank Adu, the Public Relation officer of the M.P at the event centre, he said plans were far rife to extend the exercise to other parts of the constituency but the exercise is currently ongoing at the Upper Hills.
He then assures communities at the lower hills to patiently wait for their turn and that the health team has put measures in place to extend the exercise to most communities in the constituency before the end of 2024.
He pointed out that health care delivery and basic education remains paramount in her itinerary.
She said she is in close contact with the Ghana Education Services division in Akropong to see how best she could leverage on the less privilege in the remotest communities to assist children of school going age.
She extended her heartfelt gratitude to all and sundry who voted for her to realise her dream of becoming a Member of Parliament for the constituency.
He also added that Madam Dokua hails from Akropong-Akuapem and that even after her stewardship as Member of Parliament; her doors would never be closed to the people but would offer assistance in any capacity to drive development at the Akuapem Ridge.
Madam Harriet Larbi, leader of the health team, said the exercise has been well patronized by the people as she opined “if I am not mistaking, we have gotten closed to Three Hundred beneficiaries, these numbers even exceeded that organized at the Orange Clinic during the Odwira festival”, she added. According to the attendance list, out of Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight people, One Hundred and Twenty-Five were also screened for their eyes and given eye glasses to aid their sights.
She said this particular screening exercise was quite unique in the sense that apart from anemia, hypertension, HIV, cholesterol and sugar levels screenings, Eye and malaria tests as well as general ailment was also screened. Madam Harriet explained that Malaria was considered because it was its season and the need to test for it.
In an interview with the media, many of the people could not hide their joy and excitement. Many expressed their gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the support. Some were of the notion that exercises of this nature are lifelines or stitches which could have been sent long time to cushion the marginalized especially.
One Madam Vida Asare expressed mixed sentiment as she commended Madam Dokua for the programme.
She said the ailments screened were sicknesses that worry patients and most people do not have the means for treatment. On the flip side of the coin, she was not enthused the least with the MP for relinquishing her position to contest elsewhere.
Again, Adwoa Yeboah, a15-year-old JHS girl was full of praise for the MP as she said her eyes were growing blurred with every passing day. According to her she has been diagnosed with Glaucoma some years back and she wonder where her parents could get money from to purchase eye drops and glasses. “God has indeed listened and granted my prayers”, she exclaimed.
