The occasion, which was well-attended, drew a diverse range of dignitaries and participants, including the Municipal Chief Executive, the Coordinating Director, Traditional Council, Heads of Department, teachers and school children, personnel from the security services, representatives from the transport union, as well as the general public.

Mr. Augustine Peprah, the Coordinating Director for Tano South Municipal, in his welcome address, acknowledged the significance of trees in sustaining the lives of human beings and highlighted the importance of the occasion and underscored the necessity of making tree planting a habitual practice, beyond just the commemorative event but to foster a culture of environmental sustainability.

Mr. Preprah commended all and sundry and those who participated for their collective efforts towards a sustainable environment.

The Director of Tano South Municipal Forestry Commission, Mr. Newton Atuahene Annobil, in his keynote address at the event, lamented that the pursuit of success has led to the neglect of customs, traditions, and the rule of law, ultimately contributing to the degradation of the forest. Citing an Akan adage, "Akyea na embueyeh" (it’s burnt but not fallen), Mr. Annobil emphasized that Forestry Commission's mission is to bequeath a better, richer, and more vibrant forest and wildlife to future generations.

He called on Ghanaians to join hands in planting trees under the "Tree For Life" initiative, aimed at restoring the environment and promoting sustainable development.

The Director highlighted the numerous benefits of tree planting, including improving cardiovascular health, mitigating climate change, creating jobs, and instilling a culture of environmental protection in children. He also emphasized the importance of beautifying towns and cities through tree planting.

Mr. Annobil noted that about 25,000 free tree seedlings were available at Forestry District offices and Municipal Assembly offices for collection and planting in the whole municipality. The species of seedlings available included ornamental, fruit, forest, and plantation species. He concluded by urging attendees to plant trees for the future, saying "plant tree today for the future tomorrow... Let's go planting.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwame Frimpong welcome all present and thank them for their prompt responds and reiterated the significance of the occasion and expressed gratitude to the forestry commission and the Municipal Assembly for ensuring that this initiative by H.E John Dramani Mahama the President of the Republic of Ghana to restore degraded landscape and mitigate climate change by planting thirty million trees nationwide becomes a reality.

He urged every individual to actively participate in the tree-planting process and champion the cause by spreading awareness in Tano South on the importance of tree planting.

Ending his speech, Hon. Frimpong cautioned the community to refrain from activities that could lead to the destruction of lands and forests and stressed on the importance of preserving these resources for future generations.
