The initiative is part of the government’s "Planting for Export and Rural Development" (PERD) program, launched in 2019, which aims to support farmers and enhance rural livelihoods through agricultural diversification.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Adongo, highlighted that the seven-year-old program is designed to promote entrepreneurship and tackle unemployment in the municipality.

“Farming remains the backbone of our nation’s food production,” he stated. “For this reason, the current government remains committed to supporting the agricultural sector across all municipalities.”

He encouraged all farmers to formally register with the Municipal Agriculture Department and to join or form associations to better access government support.

The Municipal Agriculture Director, Mr. Emmanuel Amanu, noted that the distribution was in response to persistent requests from local farmers for palm seedlings.

Mr. Amanu also urged the public to take advantage of the PERD initiative by registering to benefit from the program’s opportunities for improved income and living standards.

Beneficiaries thanked the MCE and the government for the support and pledged to nurture the seedlings for long-term growth and productivity.
