These include Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) room, consulting rooms, offices and the redevelopment of the ground floor of the Out Patients Department (OPD).

Speaking at the event, the MCE, Mr. Mozart K. Owuh explained that the project was a fulfilment of a promise made by the Assembly some time ago.

He stated that the Member of Parliament, Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has already transformed the children’s ward into an ultra-modern ward, and these are few additions to make the facility more responsive to the needs of the people.

The project will entail the construction of a minor theater, ENT room, emergency rooms, consulting rooms and waiting rooms as well as offices for the medical officers on the first floor.

According to the MCE, the name of the contractor working on the project is Unique Development Limited and stressed on the fact that the contractor has been ordered to employ seventy percent (70%) of the indigenes of Prestea. The project he said is expected to be completed within six to eight (6-8) months and it will be financed from Mineral Development Fund (MDF).

Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi also explained the need for the expansion and redevelopment of the hospital. She said that the facilities at the hospital could no longer serve the number of people in Prestea and its environs.

She then promised to help improve upon the Heman Health Centre to help ease the pressure on the Prestea Government Hospital. She touched on the issue of poor roads in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality and again promised to help fix them with the help of the government. She finally pleaded with the people of Prestea gathered there to keep the government in their prayers.

The Chief of Himan, Nana Nteboah Prah IV welcomed all dignitaries gathered and commended the MP and the MCE for undertaking such a good initiative. He raised concern about the inadequate space at the emergency unit of the hospital and the difficulties medical officers encounter while executing their duties in the hospital.

Nana Nteboah Prah pleaded with the MP and the MCE to see to it that the various mining companies in the Municipality help in providing good and quality roads for the Municipality as a way of giving back to the society what is duly theirs.

The Medical Superintendent of the Prestea Government Hospital Dr. Djabetey Darko expressed his profound gratitude for the construction and redevelopment of the health facilities. He called on the contractor to pre- inform the hospital staff on time so as to enable them evacuate the hospital premises before work begins.

In another development, there was a sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of the construction of a one number CHPS compound, two units one bedroom detached quarters with mechanized bore-hole, overhead stand, storage tank and furniture at Atwereboanda in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
