This brings to six the number of facilities which have so far been provided for the implementation of the CHIPS programme in the district.
Mr. Mahmud Khalid, the Upper West Regional Minister who inaugurated the two facilities expressed deep concern about the high child mortality in the region which at 208 per 1,000 live births was far above the national rate of 111 per 1,000 live births.
He said one of the ways of ensuring a better Ghana for all citizens as promised by the government was to take quality health delivery as a priority and assured the people the region would witness an unprecedented improvement in their health status under the current regime.
He therefore called on the chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders and the community health volunteers to ensure the sustainability of the facility to enable it serve its intended purpose.
Mr. Joseph Bolibie, Sissala east Director of Health Services mentioned absence of electricity and telecommunication facilities in the CHPS zones as challenges that were confronting effective health delivery in these communities.
The other challenges, he said were inadequate health personnel, frequent break down of the only ambulance in the district and inaccessibility of the communities.
Kuoro Humphrey Bonphan Tordiah appealed to the District Assembly to station a worker of Zoom Lion in the community to take care of sanitation in the CHIPS compound.
