Kpando Municipality honours farmers

The Kpando Municipal Assembly has honored Mr Raphael Yao Manu as the best farmer for distinguishing himself in the production of maize, cocoa, yam, oil palm, cassava, bee hiving, cowpea, ruminants and poultry.

Mr Manu received a motorbike, cutlasses, wellington boots, knacksack sprayer, wheelbarrow and personal protective equipment.

 

Fourteen others including Mr Matthew Adiasani, a physically challenged person were honoured for showing superiority in agricultural production.

 

They received agricultural production implements, roofing sheets and bags of cement.

 

Mrs Pauli a Delali Adinyirah, Municipal Chief Executive said the Assembly intends to embark on a number of projects and programmes to assist farmers and fisher folks.

 

She mentioned the promotion of cassava and rice cultivation through the formation of organised groups.

 

Mrs Adinyirah said plans are advanced to revamp the irrigation project at Kpando Torkor for all year round vegetable production.

 

She said government is stepping up food production through the supply of tractors, millers, planters, threshers and combined harvesters to ensure exponential growth in food production.

 

The MCE added that government is committed to facilitate food sufficiency and security.

 

She cautioned the people against indiscriminate bush burning and identifies and adopts new farming methods to promote the consumption of what is grown locally.

 

Mrs Adinyirah congratulated award winners and urged other farmers and fishermen to emulate their feat.
