Agriculture remains Ghana’s economic backbone - Kpando MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kpando Mr. Elvis Djampoh has said that the backbone of Ghana’s economy is Agricultural and the sector is a major priority for government hence the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs policy.

The MCE addressing members at a general Assembly meeting indicated that, Planting for Food and Jobs, an initiative of this current government is to ensure food security all year round, make farmers rich and create job opportunities for the citizenry. He added that the Kpando Assembly is not veering from the policy as it holds good prospects for the citizenry.

The MCE stated that the Municipal Department of Agriculture has organized 28 farmer fora in 28 communities and provided expertise to farmers on safety handling and use of agro-chemicals, storage of farm produce, improved planting materials as well as conducting germination and viability test under the initiative.

Mr. Djampoh added that the Assembly took delivery of 35 bags (40kg) of rice seed for the commencement of the policy and ten farmers were trained in the production of purified rice seed and he is happy that the recovery rate for Planting for Food and Jobs in the Municipality is 68%.
