Dr Kwabena Donkor describes Pru Assembly as “hencoop”, calls for befitting administration building

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East Constituency, Hon Dr. Kwabena Donkor and former Energy Minister for erstwhile NDC government have described the Pru East District Assembly building as a “Hencoop”.

“The first thing I would appeal to the chiefs especially, and your stakeholders is to get an Assembly building that befits our status. The one they built, err if not the chiefs are here I would have said is like a hen coop".

The MP said the Assembly lack behind particularly when it comes to Local Governance and/or Assembly issues. He said the Assembly has no Administrative block and currently occupies Fisheries offices in the District.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor made this remarks at Yeji during a Town Hall Meeting organized by the Ministry of Information (MOI) and the Information Services Department (ISD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to explain government policies and programmes to the people.

The District, created out of the then Atebubu District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1778 in 2004 has no Administrative block and currently occupies Fisheries office building.

The MP appealed to the Chiefs and people of Pru East that as the Town Hall Meeting was being held in the District, their number one problem was a befitting Assembly Administration building.

He also said the District lost a World Bank Fishery project which they were lobbying for Yeji due to lack of office.



He added that the World Bank officials were not prepared to give them funds to put up an office but carry out maintenance on their office the Assembly was occupying.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor noted that elsewhere, Assemblies established same year (2004) with Pru East District Assembly have put up befitting administration buildings; and wonder why Yeji cannot be given such befitting edifice.

He noted that he visited the District Ghana Education Service (GES) office during the week and their staff offices was not the best. He added that he also visited the District Assembly staff and the offices situation was not different as staff were adjusting themselves to work in the office.

The MP call for non-partisan approach to the problem, saying the situation has resulted into the district not performing.

The MP also raised an issue on high expenditure for the Assembly taking care of security agencies in the district and urged the chiefs to help put the Assembly into check.

Regional Information Officer, Mr. Imoro Ayibani Tebra and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru East Mr. Joshua Kwaku Abonkrah used the occasion to explain government flagship policies, projects and programmes to the people. During open forum, issues and concerns raised by the people were clarified by the DCE and the heads of departments.
