Bawku West Assembly supports disaster victims

The spill from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso has destroyed about 625 hectors of farm lands in seven communities near the White Volta basin in the Bawku West district of the Upper East Region.

The communities include Buala, Tabiri, Galaka, Salpiga, Sampolga, Kobora, Zarugu,

Timonde.

 

Mr Moses Aduk-Pam District Co-ordinator for NADMO, disclosed this and said his

outfit has presented 18 life jackets, roofing sheets and blankets, among other

relief items, to victims within the affected communities.

 

He explained that putting on the life jacket was the safest way to save lives in

water-related disasters.

 

Mr Aduk-Pam advised residents to move to safer grounds, and urged them to adhere

to early warning signs.

 

The Co-ordinator urged farmers who farm along the river banks to desist from the

practice, in order to save lives and property during such disasters.

 

Mr Simon Ayande Agbango, District Chief Executive and Chairman of the National

Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the District, who presented the

items, affirmed the Assemblys commitment to promote the welfare of people

living in the district because the development of the people was paramount to

the Assembly.
