Benjamin Fiah wins Municipal Best Farmer

Adenkrebi-based farmer, Benjamin Fiah, has been adjudged the Ga East Municipal Best Farmer at the 36th National and 16th Municipal Farmers’ Day Celebration held at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) Park, Atomic, Kwabenya, on Friday.

The National Farmers’ Day Celebration, usually held on the first Friday of December annually throughout the nation was this year shifted to the first Friday in November due to the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections slated for December 7.

The Ga East Municipal Assembly, marking its 16th Municipal edition, joined other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) throughout the country to celebrate the day, under the theme, “ENSURING AGRIBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNDER COVID-19, OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES”, at the GAEC Park with splendid cultural displays and enticing prizes for the award winners.


Ten (10) individuals and farms were honoured meritoriously for their excellent and hardwork in the agriculture sector in the year under review with Benjamin Fiah, a farmer based at Adenkrebi, emerging as the Overall Best Farmer in the Municipality.


The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah, in her address emphasized the government’s priority focus in promoting agriculture as a viable and sustainable business for economic transformation despite the crippling effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The novel coronavirus pandemic continues to batter various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, not sparing the agriculture sector, which happens to be the backbone of Ghana’s economy", she noted.

Best Alternative Livelyhood Farmer – Eugene Owusu
Best Physically Challenged Farmer – A.K Farms
Best Home Gardener – Grace Kwakye
Best Agricultural Extension Agent – Patrick Agyeman

The awardees were hosted to a buffet with live band performance by the Graceland Combo Band at newly opened M&S Eden Event Centre at Haatso after the award ceremony, hosted by the MCE, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah.
