Morris Boafo Addai is Ga East Municipal Best Farmer

A 34-year old University graduate and resident of Ashongman Estate, Morris Boafo Addai, has been adjudged the 2021 Ga East Municipal Best Farmer at a ceremony to mark the 37th National Farmers' Day and 17th Municipal Farmers'Day celebration at the Municipal Office at Abokobi.

Ten (10) other farmers were awarded in various categories.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency and Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, who was the Special Guest of Honour, congratulated farmers and fishers in the Municipality and the nation at large for their hard work, dedication and toil to feed the entire nation.

She highlighted the numerous intervention programmes and policies of the government, such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Investing for Food and Jobs, One-District-One-Factory, and One-Village-One-Dam, as having helped to sustain the lives of Ghanaians through production of food and generation of income.


She announced that she will soon facilitate the establishment of 1D1F in the Municipality to service the Agricultural sector and related sectors.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, also expressed her warmest appreciation to the farmers for their immense contribution towards the sustenance of the people and growth of the economy.

She appealed to the traditional authorities and landowners to see the need to conserve land for Agricultural purposes to ensure the continuous production of food to feed the people and facilitate the attainment of the Goal Two (2), "Zero Hunger", of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).

In her welcome address, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Ms. Marian Mawunyo Dompey, applauded the efforts of her staff and the Assembly in helping to make agriculture value-chain thrive and remain attractive to all especially the youth.


The Chief of Abokobi and President of the Ga East Chiefs' Association, and a Government Appointee of the Assembly, Hon. Samuel Nii Adjetey Mohenu, who chaired the function, commended the farmers and appealed for support for them to expand their production

The Overall Best Farmer, Mr. Morris Boafo Addai, in his acceptance speech, thanked the government for its continued support for farmers and introducing numerous interventions in the sector.

He expressed gratitude to the Hon MP, Assembly and the Department of Agriculture for their unrelentless efforts in promoting and supporting farmers in the Municipality.

The occasion was graced by many distinguished personalities including Kwabenya Queenmother, Naa Korkor Dugbatey, Chairman of the Ga East Council of Churches, Rev. Dr. Ahmed Quarshie, Dr. Osae of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Janet Koranteng, among others.

The Presiding Member (PM), Hon Jesse Nii Noi Anum, Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs Vera Akuffo-Mante, and Assembly Members, were among the dignitaries at the function.

Others who witnessed the ceremony included Heads of the Security Services, Traditional Authorities, Market Leaders, representatives of Residents' Associations and Political Parties, Heads of Departments and Units, Staff and the general public.
