The DCE, Raymond Nana Damtey, has promised to terminate the appointment of workers if their attitude towards work does not change.

About one hundred workers at the Assembly on Monday were asked to go home by the DCE, Mr. Damtey for their chronic lateness to work.

Mr. Damtey in an interview with Citi News said his action on Monday produced positive results since over 80 percent of the latecomers yesterday reported to before the scheduled reporting time the next day.

“if they continue like that somebody is going to get terminated. Everybody knows that if you follow the process you can get terminated, and the moment they know they can get terminated, it put the fear in them to come to work early,” he said.

In January the Railways Development Minister Joe Ghartey on Wednesday sent a clear signal to the staff of his distaste for lateness to work when he sent home 14 workers for coming to work late.

They included nine permanent staff and five national service personnel.

But the Minister did not take any further action against the workers, and therefore, the affected workers reported to work yesterday very early.

“It was a wake-up call, and I will monitor their response which I believe will be positive”, he stated.

On February 11 AMA officers were sacked for failing to discharge their duties appropriately.

The 11 were stationed at some specific streets within the Central Business District of Accra were spotted by the Assembly’s monitoring team taking unspecified sums of money from some traders, loitering and sleeping on duty.
