Youth receive startup kits under Alternative Livelihood Programme

Some selected youth in the Birim North District have received start-up equipment from the government under Alternative Livelihood Programme, as part of effort to guarantee socio-economic development of people living in the mining area.

They took home items such as hair dryer machines, stands, rollers, wig cups, tail combs among others after successfully completing their required training programmes.

The National Alternative Livelihood Programme is one of the numerous interventions by the government to help provide a good option for illegal miners to work and feed themselves and their families.

According to the government, the programme is expected to help curb various disturbing issues and challenges associated with galamsey.

The trainees were taken through various skilled programmes at the Community Development Training Centres in Kibi and Suhum.

Speaking at a short but colourful event, the District Chief Executive of the area, Mr. Raymond Damptey congratulated the beneficiaries for skills they have acquired throughout their training period.

He charged them to make good use of the skills that they have acquired, and as well use the items they have received for the rightful purpose in order not to let the government's effort go in vain.

Madam Patricia Boahemaa, who received the items on behalf of the trainees, also thanked the NPP-government and the DCE for the initiative.
