The Assembly has also and promised to award residents who would arrest persons engaging in open defecation a commission of 20% from the GHs 50.00 spot fine charged against persons caught engaging in the illegal act.

The District Chief Executive Mr. Maxwell Asiedu , who made this known when addressing the people at the General Assembly meeting yesterday, expressed worry at the development where residents in some communities declared open defecation free (ODF) are going back to pick the old habit of defecating in the open.

He bemoaned that the development could affect the Assembly’s performance on the 2018 District league table, hence the need to enforce some key interventions, including the implementing of the bylaws, to wrestle the situation.

He said: “persons now caught engaging in open defecation would be prosecuted accordingly”.

Mr. Aseidu added that the Assembly is taking concrete steps to reward communities that have maintained their ODF status and entreated residents to embrace good hygienic practices to maintain good health.
