DAFFIAMA: One village, one dam takes off at Jollinyiri Community

The “One Village, One Dam” initiative by government which is to boost irrigation farming through the construction of irrigation dams in every village in the three regions of the north has started in the Daffiama/Bussie/Issa District of the Upper West Region.

In accordance with this policy, ten (10) communities in the Daffiama/Bussie/Issa District have been selected to benefit from the one village one dam initiative by government through the auspices of the Northern Development Authority & Ministry of Special Development Initiative.

The ten (10) beneficiary communities include;
1. Jollinyiri
2. Chabaa
3. Tabiasi
4. Kojokperi
5. Kamahegu
6. Challa
7. Duang
8. Issa
9. Daffiama
10. Moyiri.



The Good news is that, construction has started in Jollinyiri Community.

The contractor is seriously on site working while the other nine (9) dams will follow soon.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the people in the district employing about 85% of the population. Food crop production in this sector largely remains subsistence with low output levels.



The agriculture sector is characterized by crop farming and livestock production with estimated growth rate of 2.1% per annum, which is below the national target of 6% per annum.

This great initiative will boost crop and livestock production in entire Daffiama/Bussie/Issa District.
