AJUMAKO: DCE cautions parents against out of court settlement of defilement cases

The District Chief Executive of Ajuamako-Eyian-Essiam, Reverend Ransford Nyarko has expressed concern about behaviour of some parents who allowed settlement of defilment, rape cases out of court.

He said parents should not let few cedis be paid as compensation by the culprits to mortgage victims’ future during an interaction with the sexual and gender-based violence (SGBU) and adolescent reproductive health empowerment outreach for girls in the district.

The DCE said that it is sad to know that some parents take a few cedi notes from male adults who defile their girls and go scot-free.

He appealed to (DOVSU) and other stakeholders to ensure that rape cases and defilement are brought to book and get punished, and asked the girls to report any form of sexual abuse to his office.

He further urged them to take advantage of the free SHS policy by the government seriously to attain a higher level of education and enable them to become responsible adults in society.

The acting district health director Mrs. Esther Amankwa who in attendance, spoke on the changing in adolescent, the causes, effect, and prevention of adolescent pregnancy and warned the girls to abstain from sex.

She noted to them that adolescent pregnancy could bring about untold economic hardship, transmitted diseases, and also jeopardize their education.

This girls’ empowerment program which was sponsored by UNFPA was attended by 300 girls selected from basic and SHS in the district and organized by the department of gender in collaboration with the cultural Regional coordinating council. (CRCC).
