Akuapem North inaugurates Larteh-Akuapem Fire Station

The Akuapem North Municipal Assembly with support from some philanthropist from the Larteh-Akuapem area notably Madam Obaa Akua and the Lobby Group has inaugurated a Fire Station at Lerteh-Akuapem to help respond positively and effectively to disasters in the area.

The new station which is a major renovation work on an existing structure used by the Ghana Post comes with Commanders Bungalow, and eight offices including the Commander's Office, Second-in-Command's Office, Operations and Investigations Office, Administration/Accounts Office, Control Room, Crew Room, Conference Hall, Safety Office, Training and Rural Fire Department, Stores and a Kitchen.

Until the inauguration of this Fire Station, the Larteh-Akuapem and its environs had to rely on services from the Akropong Fire Station, and having it in that enclave means their response time to situation would be faster.

The Chief Fire Officer Julius Kuunuor said the gesture is in line with their expansion program to get their services closer to the people.

He disclosed that currently the Service has operations in 215 Fire Stations covering 174 districts across the country, adding that efforts are however being made to get at least one Fire station in each of the remaining 86 Administrative Districts in the near future.

For this year the Service has earmarked five additional Fire Stations for the Region to be added to the existing 27 Fire Stations including 24 Fire Stations and 3 Fire Posts which he said are far apart.

CFO Kuunuor who commended the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly and all the brains behind the initiative for their foresight and major show of support called on other organizations, benevolent institutions and district Assemblies to emulate the shining example by providing office and residential accommodation for the service to expand to cover other areas yet to be provided with fire cover.

The Chief Fire Officer was delighted that their continuous promotional and educational activities on fire prevention to heighten public awareness, including intensive media Fire prevention campaign, floats among others in schools, religious organisations, and institutions are yielding positive results as records have shown continuous and consistent reduction in fire disasters from January till June.

He urged all and sundry to be particular with fire issues and take the necessary precautionary measures to avoid such disasters.
