Mayor hands over new maternity, theatre block to Kaneshie Polyclinic
The Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey has handed over a newly constructed maternity and theatre building to the Kaneshie Polyclinic in Accra to improve health care in the city.

The over 50-bed capacity block which is equipped with modern medical equipment houses the paediatric and emergency units, a theatre, consulting and changing rooms, a dental unit, an ultrasound scanning room, and washrooms among other facilities.
Speaking in an interview after the ceremony, the Mayor emphasised the importance of the Kaneshie polyclinic in the provision of essential and quality health services to the people of Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District and its environs. She commended all stakeholders including the First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Member of Parliament for the area, Dakoa Newman, and the City of Freiburg in Germany for their support toward the completion of the facility.
She reiterated plans to upgrade the polyclinic to a hospital and assured her continued support in achieving the vision.
“I am happy that today we can all join this occasion to hand over this facility successfully to the management.This project was one of the main projects that came to mind when I assumed office and we had to complete it on time for the betterment of the community.I hope and pray that it will be maintained well so many can benefit from it,” she said. She urged the management of the polyclinic to embrace the culture of maintenance.
The Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei Constituency, Madam Dakoa Newman noted that the project was initiated in 2004 but stalled due to lack of funds adding that the government through AMA secured funding in 2020 to complete the project.
She disclosed that as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency, she had made a "number of donations to the Polyclinic and collaborated with the first lady's office to donate medical equipment and supplies to alleviate the burden of the clinic."
Also speaking at the ceremony Medical Superintendent of the Kaneshie Polyclinic, Dr Stella Gyamfi said the construction of the facility would help reduce Ante-Natal Care (ANC) referrals and prevent maternal mortalities.
The Kaneshie Polyclinic constructed by the Swedish government in 1966, is Ghana’s oldest polyclinic and provides medical services for residents in and around Kaneshie, Bubiashie, Awudome, Avenor, Fadama, Kwame Nkrumah Circle among others.
