According to him, the decision formed part of the government's commitment to upgrading critical public health infrastructure to meet the growing needs of residents and businesses in the metropolis.
The Mayor announced during a working visit to familiarise himself with ongoing and abandoned projects across the city.
“I have observed that the facility is not in a good state,” the Mayor stated, adding that the government would ensure the clinic was redeveloped into a four-storey building equipped to provide quality healthcare services.
He emphasised that the redeveloped clinic would bring essential medical services closer to the large population of traders and market women operating in and around the Makola area, ultimately reducing the need for them to travel long distances to access care.
Natasha N. A. Addo, Administrative Manager of the Makola Government Clinic, who received the Mayor and his entourage, spoke out about some challenges being faced by the clinic and expressed appreciation for the planned redevelopment.
She noted that the upgrade would significantly improve service delivery and enhance the working environment for healthcare staff.
Other projects visited included the abattoir in Jamestown, Accra Sempe School, among others.
