Nadowli-Kaleo DCE Inspects Development Projects

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo Katherine T. Lankono, has embarked on a district-wide tour to inspect some completed and ongoing infrastructural projects initiated by the government in the various communities of the district on Friday.

EDUCATION

Katherine T. Lankono donated 200 dual desks, 100 mono desks, 10 teacher tables,s and 8 cardboards to the Nadowli-Kaleo District Education Service (GES) on Friday the 18th of January, 2019.

Speaking to Radio Progress after the donation, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Katherine T. Lankono said the current NPP administration has great and better plans for education.

Based on this, the Assembly has decided to support the education sector with some furniture that will support teaching and learning in some of the schools in the district.

Madam Katherine also added that education is the key to the development of the district and hence the need to support the sector.

The District Director of Education, Madam Mary Assumpa promised to distribute the furniture to the schools that really need them.

In 2018 she handed over a kindergarten block to Meguo a farming community in the District. And similar one was again handed over to the Duong community. This she said would reduce the problem of inadequate furniture in schools in her jurisdiction.

She advised the Heads of the schools to practice good maintenance culture on the furniture in order to prolong their lifespan.

ONE VILLAGE ONE DAM

Madam Katheirne T. Lankono Friday visited the construction site of the 1-village-1-dam project in Beeli a farming community in the district, as part of her one-day tour of project sites in the district.

With a total of 110 dams to be constructed in the Upper West Region, the DCE indicated that 10 of these dams will be sited in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, which will ensure all-year-round farming in the district.

She added that six sites have been handed over to contractors for the construction of the dams to begin. The DCE expressed hopes that the contractors will finish before the rains set in.

She admonished all contractors to use local labor to do some of the jobs that do not need high skilled persons.

Madam Katherine appealed to the contractor to adhere to the terms and conditions of the contract and deliver quality work.

The site manager of Manhokers Company limited, the company working on the dam, Mohammed Issahaku said the dam will be handed over to the assembly by the end of February this year, he assured the Assembly of quality work.

Speaking to some of the community members, they said the dam will become their source of drinking water as they do not have any good source of drinking water for the past years.

They also called on the Assembly to sink a borehole for them.

HEALTH AND SANITATION

The DCE also inspected the construction of a 10 seater toilet facility for the McCoy College of Education.

Speaking to the media she indicated that the project is under the Ministry of Special Development Initiative.

The College was established in 2014 to train teachers for basic schools in response to a social audit which was conducted by the Catholic Diocese of Wa in 2011 to assess the physical and financial gaps between needs and resources available for local development in the area of education.

The vision of the College is to provide quality Catholic Education for Transformational Leadership.

At the time the team got to the project site, the contractor was not a site but the DCE expressed her joy at the level of works by the contractor.

The SRC President of the college, Kuuzie Betrand expressed his joy and called on the Assembly to assist the college with more projects.
